Power electronics is a cornerstone of the energy transition – enabling renewable power integration, electrified transport across all sectors, efficient industrial processes and more. But given the increasing electrification and growth in global population, the CO2-equivalent emissions saved by the above-mentioned applications are only one part of the story. The other part is the environmental impact of the power converters themselves.

From water and CO₂ footprint to the use of critical raw materials and the release of harmful substances, the environmental footprint of power converters will become increasingly significant as electrification advances worldwide. This calls for new approaches: reuse and recycling strategies, repair-friendly design, advanced materials, and life-cycle assessment as an integral part of product development. In this network meeting we will provide updates on ongoing activities within ECPE and we would like to discuss the next steps and priorities for our community with you.
