Parameters of Current Commutation (Theory)

  • Overview

This is an educational applet to demonstrate theoretical aspects of current commutation.

  • Operation
    • Visualize actual current paths and triggering of thyristors by dragging the red time slider.
    • Change the value of the constant load current (current source I0) by dragging the red horizontal line labeled 'I0'. Higher current increases the commutation time.
    • Triggering angles a1 and a2 can be manipulated independently to define the load voltage u0.
    • Change the values of the two stray inductances independently to change the commutation times of the two phases.
    • Drag the red point on curve u2 (blue) to change its amplitude and/or phase. This influences the commutation time. If voltages u1 and u2 are not of the same amplitude with a 180 degree phase shift, the output voltage u0 will not be zero during commutation but dependent on u1 and u2.
