Sinusoidal PWM, Single Carrier

  • Overview

In this applet a sinusoidal load current is generated by switching the inverter at high frequency. A current controller is implemented that determines the error between the reference and load current, it then compares this error against a high frequency triangular carrier and a pre-control function to generate a switching signal.

The influence the carrier frequency and inductor value has on the sinusoidal quality of the load current waveform can be observed with this applet. The ripple in the load current is dependent on the switching frequency, load inductance, and amplitude and phase of the load voltage.

  • Operation
    • Change the frequency of the triangular carrier and observe the influence it has on the current ripple.
    • Change the load inductance value and observe the influence on the current ripple.
    • Change the amplitude of the current reference.
    • Change the amplitude and phase angle of the load voltage.
    • Move the red time line and observe how the load current vector moves as the inverter switches turn on and off.
