ECSEL Joint Undertaking ´Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership´
The ECSEL Joint Undertaking (JU) is a public-private partnership keeping Europe at the forefront of technology development. Electronic components and systems are a pervasive Key Enabling Technology, impacting all industrial branches and almost all aspects of life. ECSEL JU offers funding for research, development and innovation projects with unparalleled systemic and strategic impact for smart, sustainable and inclusive economic growth.In Horizon 2020 the JUs ARTEMIS (Advanced Research and Technology for Embedded Intelligence and Systems), ENIAC (Nanoelectronics) and EPoSS (European Technology Platform on Smart System Integration) have been merged to the Joint Undertaking ECSEL (Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership).
The vision of ARTEMIS is that embedded systems will realise the dream of ambient intelligence. In which intelligent support for people will be embedded in everyday objects. Large-scale application will increase our quality of life. The result will be to help make life healthier and more secure. And to provide more comfort for Europe's ageing population. ARTEMIS nurtures the ambition to strengthen Europe's position in embedded intelligence and systems and to attain world-class leadership.
The recent EUREKA programme CATRENE will effect Technological Leadership for a competitive European ICT industry. It is the ambition of Europe and the European companies to deliver nano-/microelectronics solutions that respond to the needs of society at large, improving the economic prosperity of Europe and reinforcing the ability of its industry to be at the forefront of the global competition.
The ENIAC Joint Undertaking (JU) is a public-private partnership focusing on nanoelectronics that brings together ENIAC Member/Associated States, the European Commission, and AENEAS (an association representing European R&D actors in this field). ENIAC JU defines and implements a Research Agenda, notable by awarding funding to participants in selected projects following competitive calls for proposals, by promoting a public-private partnership, and by achieving synergy and coordination of European R&D efforts in the field on nanoelectronics.
EURIPIDES is the EUREKA R&D programme dedicated to interconnection, packaging, miniaturisation of electronic systems or devices, silicon sensors and integration of all electronic systems.These smart products are more and more part of our life and environment in communication (smart phones), automotive industry (electric cars), aeronautics, secure societies, medical, agro food, water and energy. They are invisible, but essential and vital!
