ECPE Workshop: Power Electronics Research & Technology Roadmaps

ECPE has started a European initiative of academia and industry to jointly develop power electronics research and technology roadmaps. The vision is that these medium to long term research roadmaps (up to 2020) will become a guideline for power electronic research in universities and research centres, provide an orientation for public research programmes and help industry to prepare for upcoming technology steps.

The approach and methodology of roadmap development in the ECPE Network is focussing on power electronics applications in different key systems. Working groups with experts from industry and university have been formed:

  1. Power grid infrastructure, power generation and distribution
  2. Large drives (large industry and traction drives)
  3. High performance motor drives
  4. Small drives for home appliances
  5. High frequency power conversion > 1 kW
  6. High frequency power supplies < 1 kW
  7. Automotive power electronics
  8. Future (renewable) energy sources

In this International Roadmap Workshop, representatives from the Centre for Power Electronics Systems (CPES, USA) and the Power Electronics Research Center of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST PERC, Japan) are invited to exchange information and discuss about results of the power electronics research & technology roadmap development.

The Roadmap Workshop is scheduled to take place in the week of the EPE Conference 2007 right after the ECPE SiC User Forum in the Danish capital Copenhagen.

All presentations and discussions will be in English.
