The European Chips Act - a European Strategy on Semiconductors for the Digital Decade
The European Chips Act will strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and resilience in semiconductor technologies and applications, and help achieve both the digital and green transition. Chips are strategic assets for key industrial value chains. With the digital transformation, new markets for the chip industry are emerging such as highly automated cars, Internet of Things, connectivity and supercomputers. With the European Chips Act, the EU will address semiconductor shortages and strengthen Europe’s technological leadership in the field. It will mobilize more than € 43 billion of public and private investments.
By the way, the United States have announced a ´CHIPS and Science Act of 2022´. The related funding includes $39 billion for grants available to semiconductor manufacturers as well as equipment and materials suppliers and $11 billion for federal semiconductor research programmes.
