6th International Conference on Integrated Power Electronics Systems CIPS 2010

16 - 18 March 2010, Nuremberg/Germany

CIPS stands for the 6th International Conference on Power Electronics Systems Integration. It will be co-organized by VDE ETG and ECPE and technically co-sponsored by
IEEE PELS as well as by ZVEI.
The three main topics of CIPS are:
- Power electronics systems,
- high-power modules,
- reliability of power electronics systems.
For all three topics system integration will help to increase power density (and reduce costs), to increase performance (and reduce EMI), and to improve reliability by a more efficient thermal management (and better cooling).
One of the basic ideas of CIPS is to bring together industry and academia such, that industry is describing new concepts and needs and academia is providing solutions for it.

iMAPS 2010

5th European Advanced Technology Workshop on Micropackaging and Thermal Management.
3 & 4 February 2010, La Rochelle / France

The workshop will be dedicated to thermal management of integrated circuits and particularly to adequate cooling solutions for high integration level of devices and equipments. Rising speed of the components leads to increase power losses whereas miniaturization and low cost technologies do not facilitate the mastering of the thermal impedances.
In such conditions, the thermal management, as a part of packaging solutions, is and will continue to be one of the main priorities driving the technology evolution of electronic components.

Strategic Research Agenda on Intelligent Power Electronics for Energy Efficiency

Energy saving, improved energy efficiency and environmental protection are ubiquitous topics in society, in Europe and globally. Despite many efforts to save energy, the demand for electricity is expected to grow and much faster in comparison with other energy sources over the next three decades. Today 40% of all energy consumption is in electrical energy, but this will grow to 60% by 2040. On the other side, the share of electrical energy which will be controlled by power electronics e.g. in variable speed drives will increase from 40% in 2000 to 80% in 2015.
Smart power electronics can make a large difference in the energy efficiency of products and systems and is a cornerstone for sustainable use of ICT, automation, and numerous other electricity powered devices.
