European Research funded by the European Commission (EC) is organised in so-called Framework Programmes (FP) for Research and Technological Development.

FP3 1990 - 1994 € 6.6 billion

The 'Calls for Proposals' are organised within Thematic Areas or Themes. Power Electronics is not directly addressed in these themes. The topic is distributed over several thematic areas but is nowhere in the focus:
  • Information Society or Information & Communication Technologies (IST/ICT)
  • Nano-Sciences/Technologies, Materials and new Production Technol. (NMP)
  • Energy and Transport

EUREKA - MEDEA+ (http://www.medeaplus.org)
MEDEA+ -EUREKA 2365- is the latest industry-driven pan-European programme for advanced co-operative R&D in microelectronics to ensure Europe's technological and industrial competitiveness in this sector on a worldwide basis.
MEDEA+ focuses on enabling technologies for the Information Society and aims to make Europe a leader in System Innovation on Silicon.
